EAR
6A
These draft pages are part of a larger effort intended to
allow quicker access to export regulations. A feature of this
sort is a part of our new requirements, but this may not be the way
that we do this. The idea has been to provide a path for end
users to down select from general catagories to specific catagories and
thereby avoid reading long lists. The .pdf text based regulations
were reduced to a more readable outline & form previously.
Now the outline form has since been converted into tables for all of
the laser items.
Tables seem easier to read than text. These tables are easily
compared to text since they are directly above the regulatory text from
which they were derived:

It may be that tables and/or text will be linked to our controlled
item descriptions. Tables allow much easier comparisions between
performance specifications and this format may be a good way to
go. These are presented for your consideration.
The conversion of these files to tables is a necessary step in creating
a set of performance based specifications. All of the performance
data will be placed in order of wavelength (positon along the
rainbow). All of the laser tables exist on one large table that
has yet to be standardized, converted to Excel, and arranged in order
by wavelength. The idea is to capture new lasers based on what
they do rather than how they do it. Thus, a wavelength and power
level would be sufficient to describe the controls over a given
laser. One could still lookup a laser in the conventional way,
but this establishes a possible avenue for comprehensive (&
anticipatory) controls.
The current laser regulations "master table" is a work in progress but
is viewed by this link:

The information below includes all of the links from the old origional page. Only the
6A005 has been converted into tables.
These draft
pages allow fast access to ECCNs in a few
selected catagories. By selecting and clicking on a product
description one can quickly find the long ECCNs for the selected
product. This format is proposed as a way for all end users
to find long ECCNs.
Only the optical sensors, cameras, and cameras are fully expanded to
the product level. The ECCN number links simply jump to those
ECCNs. The fully expanded form could be developed to
allow applicants to determine if they need an ECCN or an analyst to
find a number. This approach allows us to easily read the
regulations.

The intial intent of this exercise was to render the
EAR data into a form so that appropriate templates for roll-up
could be generated. Now that the long ECCN may be found, the
specificly
controlled product attributes become the parameters for the technical
description.
Here is an example of how a template
is made from the EARs.
